Jalada 09: Nostalgia Call Out.

Jalada Africa is calling for submissions in two categories. First is: Nostalgia Online. They welcome short poems, flash fiction, and musings presented as (or alongside) original GIFS, memes, photos, and videos. Submissions are to be tagged to Jalada Africa on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, using #JaladaNostalgia.
The second category is: Nostalgia Anthology. They seek short fiction, poetry, essays, visual art, films, and interviews (audio, visual, or written) on the subject of Nostalgia. Submissions will close on July 31st, 2020.

African Writers Award 2020.

African Writers Development Trust is pleased to announce submission call for the 2020 African Writers Awards themed, ‘The African Identity’.
All submissions should fall within the following categories:
Poetry (Either Blank verse, Pantoum, Haiku or Senryu)
Creative Non-fiction – 1,500 words maximum
Drama – 6 Acts maximum
All works should not have been previously published and must be uploaded on the submission portal on their website (https://www.africanwritersconference.com/awards/.) The new deadline for submission is August 15th, 2020. Winners of the award will each receive a cash prize of $100.
Beginning in 2018, the African Writers Development Trust hosts the African Writers Awards as the highpoint of the African Writers Conference. The categories covered in the earlier editions were short stories, poetry, flash fiction, and children’s literature.
The Wakini Kuria Award for Children Literature calls for submission.

The Wakini Kuria Award for Children’s Literature is open for submissions for their second edition.
The Award was established in 2019 to honour the memory and legacy of Wakini Kuria who served on the advisory board of the African Writers Development Trust and also, as the Chief Editor of Writers Space Africa magazine for almost 2 years.
Only writers of African descent are eligible. Zambian Marjorie Moono Simuyuni won the maiden edition.
The winner of this edition will receive a plaque, a certificate and $100, while $75 goes to the second place, and $50 to the third. Deadline for submission has been extended to July 31st, 2020.

Poets in Nigeria (PIN) Poetry Contest 2020.

Poets in Nigeria (PIN) has introduced a poetry contest with the theme, “Yesterday Owes Today Everything”. Contestants should record a 3-minute video exploring the theme, upload it on Instagram, then follow and tag @nigerianpoets with the hashtag #storytellingfromyesterday
First place will receive a cash prize of N30, 000. Second and third place will get N20, 000 and N10, 000 respectively. Deadline for submission is June 30th, 2020.

Ake Review 2020 calls for submissions.

Ake Review is now open for its 2020 edition. The theme for this year’s Ake festival is ‘African Time’. This is also the same for Ake Review which champions new writings surrounding issues and ideas shaping the future of Africa and people of African descent, especially in these extraordinary times we live in.
For the 2020 edition, they seek submissions ranging from poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and visual arts exploring said theme. Interested persons are to send only one unpublished work as a Word attachment (or JPEG for visual arts) to editor@akefestival.org with the subject ‘AR submission’.
Persons whose works are accepted for publication will receive 2 complimentary copies of the journal and a modest honorarium. Deadline for submission is June 17th, 2020.
12th Casa África Essay Prizes.

Casa África calls for submissions for its Casa África Prizes for Essays. It aims to recognise, promote and publicise original and unpublished essays that enhance the knowledge that people have of the African continent.
The theme for this year is, ‘Climate Change in Africa’. Interested persons are required to send only one entry. The essay should be presented in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese. It should not be less than 15,000 or more than 20,000 words, written in Word, using Arial 12 format and double spaced.
