Hi, I’m Cryptte and you’re listening to Lyfeblerd, a podcast all about manga, manhwa, light novels, and other types of comic books.
I know, it’s been a while but I’m back for the second season and I hope you’re as pumped as I am. Even if you don’t admit it, I have to say I missed you guys. Squeezing time to read several volumes of each IP every two weeks and then rushing to record, edit and publish before the deadline.
Okay, maybe I don’t miss all the madness that ensued during the first season but I’ve been itching to share all the cool stuff I’ve been reading with you. Watching too. So I’ve decided to make a bunch of changes to the show that should make it more fun for you and me.
Previously on Lyfeblerd…
Last season I covered a mix of manga, manhwa, webcomics, and light novels. Nine to be exact and I had fun talking about them.
While precariously navigating around spoilers, I tried to give you all a feel for the entire series, but there was one or two that I just had to stick to the first volume for. This was due to time constraints.
Lyfeblerd runs on a biweekly schedule, which means having to put down each series after recording for a new one. Most of the titles I covered were things I’d read before, but I was always left with the urge to continue reading till the end.
Then I had my reading lists which included lots of series I wanted to cover on the show but couldn’t because I had already recommended them to you to read privately.
The previous format left a bittersweet taste in my mouth and prompted me to make a few big changes to the show.
Out With The Old, In With The New
Spoilers
I hate spoilers. Always have, always will, but I’ve come to realise that all spoilers are not made the same. Trolls aside, most people give spoilers to share the awesomeness of their favourite IPs with others and that’s a goal I share.
So while I won’t be trying to spoil any title for listeners, I will be revisiting a lot of the happenings in each book to carry you along and get you excited to read. Either this will get you to read them yourself to fill in the blanks or you’ll stick to my daft summaries instead. It’s a win-win, so spoilers are in.
Entire series
I will now be covering an entire series before moving on to the next. This means I should only be discussing titles that have ended their run, but there will be exceptions, as I will mention later on.
Each episode will focus on at least one volume of a series but could extend to two or three. This will help speed things up and leave more mysteries for you to discover when you pick up each book.
I understand that the titles I cover may not always be your cup of tea and it’s okay to skip episodes on books you aren’t interested in. I do hope you stick around though, even if it is for my stellar personality.
Still Biweekly
Lyfeblerd will remain a biweekly show but I’ll be introducing several special episodes to mix things up. We can’t be eating jollof rice every day, no matter how delicious.
These Specials can range from recaps to discussions on multimedia projects and new releases. They’re my way of keeping things spicy and best of all, you likely won’t get any warning beforehand, so surprise!
Reading lists
Don’t worry, reading lists aren’t going away, but they are changing slightly. I won’t be sharing my recommendations until after I finish a series.
In addition, I’ll also be dropping a poll as we draw closer to the end of a series to let you guys choose what title I’ll be covering next. This list will include things from my reading lists too, so nothing is off-limits this time.
Bonus Gift
I don’t know about you but sometimes I get tired of listening to my own voice. Which is why I’ll be having guests on the show to turn that jollof into party rice.
These guests will be friends of the show, professionals in the industry, and even the occasional fan or two. They get to share their own opinions, so look forward to hilarious antics whenever they do join me.
The Next Title
That brings us to the end of this tiny little update of an episode, but before I go, here’s a hint for the first title of the season.
A light novel space opera filled with political intrigue and wicked humour.
