June is right around the corner and that means Ayamba Meet & Greet is almost here. This time, we celebrate the art of photography with the aid of a talented professional that loves to bedazzle the mundane.
Guest of the Month
The month of June boasts two celebrations associated with photography. They are Nature Photography Day on June 15 and National Camera Day on June 29. We picked June’s guest due to her specific area of interest. Introducing Iklima Babangida, queen of colours.
Iklima Babangida
Iklima Babangida is a self-taught photographer and content creator. She began as a hobbyist in 2017 with a particular love of nature. However, Iklima was able to hone her craft into a successful business after only a few years.
From wedding ceremonies to portrait photography, Iklima does it all with a professional eye and the ability to tell captivating stories. She finds the beauty in the mundane and highlights them in pictures that capture a picturesque Kaduna and its residents. She also enjoys travelling and trying new restaurants.
Iklima was the official photographer for Hausa International Book and Arts Festival 2021. She facilitated the LYDA pay it forward program and the discussion on content creation at KADA Hive Creator’s Meetup, while her photographs were exhibited at the Kaduna International Photography Festival. She was also the photographer at several other events, including TEDxBarnawa 2019, Kaduna World Speech Day, and KADA Hive’s Earth Day 2022 project.
You can find Iklima Babangida on Instagram @sunshineinapod and @shotsby_bee or on Twitter as @sunshineinapod.
What is Ayamba Meet & Greet
Ayamba Meet & Greet began in February 2021 to bring together artists so we can interact with their works. This, we hope, will spark and inspire creative conversations that are necessary for the growth of arts and literature. We believe in the importance of building a literate society and the event helps us do so alongside our community.
Meeting on the first Saturday of every month, we invite one or two guests from a pool of upcoming and established creatives from around the region with a lot of insight to share.
We also have open mic performances from attendees and play fun games like charades while our friends at VersusNG host Just Dance sessions on the Nintendo Switch.
Join us
If all that sounds like your cup of tea, or coffee, then come on down on the first Saturday of every month to the Creativity Court at #21 Malam Isa Hassan Road, Unguwan Dosa, Kaduna. The event begins at 3:00pm on the dot, so if you’re scared of missing anything, don’t be late.
See you soon!
