March is just around the corner and with it, another Meet & Greet from the team at Ayamba LitCast. This time, take a brief break from the arts to celebrate a lady that empowers others to become the best version of themselves.
Guest of the Month
Our guest this month champions the women of Nigeria through her advocacy platform named Wonder Woman.
Introducing our second guest of the year, Elina Augustine Jiwul.
Elina Augustine Jiwul
Elina is an educator and community development expert. Her interest in women empowerment, menstrual hygiene, gender equality and justice for rape / abused persons is evident in the work her organisation does with young girls.
Founded in 2018, Wonder Woman Nigeria has carried out outreach programs centred around sensitisation and education across communities in Nigeria including, Kawo and Kasuwan Magani in Kaduna, Edeoha in Rivers, and Na’ibawa in Kano State. Young girls are taught about their bodies and the difficulties they may experience in society as a result of their gender. In addition, they are provided with period kits – soaps, deodorants, and pads monthly.
Other Wonder Woman Nigeria projects include “A Christmas to Remember” in partnership with SESCI (December 2021), and Elina’s “Random Acts of Kindness Day Campaign.”
A climate change advocate and volunteer with Icreate Africa, she is also the Quality Assurance Advisor for 360HSDC – a holistic health-based development organisation focused on utilising innovative technology to address poor health systems and inequalities in accessing health care services.
In her spare time, Elina writes, swims, takes long walks and tries to get better at journaling.
You can contact Elina on Facebook.
What is Ayamba Meet & Greet
Ayamba Meet & Greet began in February 2021 to bring together artists so we can interact with their works. This, we hope, will spark and inspire creative conversations that are necessary for the growth of arts and literature. We believe in the importance of building a literate society and the event helps us do so alongside our community.
Meeting on the first Saturday of every month, we invite one or two guests from a pool of upcoming and established creatives from around the region with a lot of insight to share.
We also have open mic performances from attendees and play fun games like charades while our friends at VersusNG host Just Dance sessions on the Nintendo Switch.
Join us
If all that sounds like your cup of tea, or coffee, then come on down on the first Saturday of every month to the Creativity Court at #21 Malam Isa Hassan Road, Unguwan Dosa, Kaduna. The event begins at 3:00pm on the dot, so if you’re scared of missing anything, don’t be late.
See you soon!
